Euro 2012: Players to watch – Wojciech Szcz?sny (Poland)

The Arsenal goalkeeper has stormed through the ranks at the Emirates, and will get his first taste of international competitive action in Warsaw.

Wojciech Szcz?sny POLAND

Over the years, Poland has become renowned for blooding men to stand between the sticks and it is a tradition that still carries on through to today. Arguably the most well-known Polish keeper in England, especially to the older generation, would be Jan Tomaszewski; the man Brian Clough labelled a clown before he proceeded to deny the Three Lions a spot at World Cup 1974 almost singlehandedly.

In more recent years, Jerzy Dudek and Artur Boruc will be remembered for their time minding the nets at Liverpool and Celtic respectively; and while both ?ukasz Fabia?ski and Tomasz Kuszczak are constantl…

This is a first step – Klopp vows Liverpool will challenge again in 2019-20

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool have taken a first step towards glory after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

A 2-0 win over Wolves at Anfield on Sunday was not enough to give the Reds a first league triumph in 29 years, with City ending a gripping title race on top by a single point after beating Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1.

Liverpool finished the 2018-19 top-flight season having lost only once, at the Etihad Stadium, while their tally of 97 points is the most any team has ever managed except for Pep Guardiola s City in the past two seasons.

Manager Klopp does not think he could have asked for any more from his players, but he is confident they can get even better next term.

I know people will find something, a point …

Bayern: Lewandowski likely to join in 2014

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hinted at Robert Lewandowski joining the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Lewandowski – who scored 36 goals in 49 comptetitive appearances for Dortmund last season – has been regularly linked with a switch to UEFA Champions League winners Bayern in recent months.

Bayern, who also won the Bundesliga title last season and the DFB Pokal in a historic treble, have failed to land their man though, with the 24-year-old now likely to remain at his club until his contract expires in a year s time.

Dortmund have already lost star midfielder Mario Goetze to Bayern this year and they are refusing to do business with the Bavarians in a bid to keep their own title aspirations alive.

When quizzed about the p…

De la Fuente: Yamal must adapt to ´reality´ of heavy treatment at Euro 2024

Lamine Yamal must appreciate the reality of rough treatment by opponents at Euro 2024, so says Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente, ahead of Tuesday s last-four meeting with France.

The 16-year-old has impressed for La Roja in Germany, assisting three goals as Spain have won all five of their matches at the tournament.

No Spanish player has ever registered more assists at a single European Championship tournament, while Yamal has created 14 chances – the most at a major competition for Spain since Xavi s 25 at Euro 2012.

Yet Spain have been somewhat frustrated by tactics from the opposition to stop Yamal and wing partner Nico Williams, with repeated calls for more protection of their players.

Yamal has only won four free-kicks at this tournament, however…

Arsenal v Newcastle United: Wenger keen to build on impressive 2015

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged his Premier League leaders not to let their focus wander as they begin 2016 against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Wenger s men top the table on goal difference from Leicester City and head into the new year on the back of an impressive 2015, which has seen them win the most points (81) and matches (25) in the division.

Arsenal have been top four times going into the new year during the Premier League era but have closed out their title challenge on just one of those occasions in 2002.

Being top on goal difference doesn t make a big difference, it is just down to how well you play, Wenger said.  Your performances dictate all that and you have to be guided by your performances.

After that it is reassuring to…

Grealish motivated by Euro 2024 heartbreak

Jack Grealish said his omission from England s Euro 2024 squad was the most difficult thing I ve ever had to deal with .

Grealish was left out by Gareth Southgate, despite having been a regular in England s set-up since 2021.

The playmaker, who joined City from Aston Villa for £100million after helping England reach the final of Euro 2020, endured a stop-start campaign for Pep Guardiola s team in 2023-24.

Grealish scored three goals and set up a further three in 36 appearances in all competitions for City last season, but injuries and a loss of form meant he often had to settle for a cameo role.

But after missing out on Euro 2024, the 28-year-old has additional motivation to get back to his best.

I ll be honest it was probably, football-wise, t…

The holidays are hectic enough for most folks and with COVID pushing around the NFL betting schedule, the Washington Football Team finds itself on the road for the second time this week when it visits the Dallas Cowboys for Sunday Night Football.

Washington was forced to play at Philadelphia on Tuesday due to an outbreak bumping their original Sunday slot, and the quick turnaround doesn’t help a roster plagued with injuries on both sides of the ball – a big reason why Dallas is a 10-point home favorite.

Here are our free NFL picks and predictions for Washington at Dallas on December 26.

The New York Giants host the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Giants are slight home underdogs on the NFL odds board to open up the season.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will be making his first regular-season start since going down with an ACL tear last year, and my Vikings vs. Giants predictions are zeroing in on one of his receivers ahead of our NFL picks for Sunday, September 8.
